Before establishing herself in Amsterdam, Martie van der Loo studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and the Academia di Belles Artes in Florence and developed het craft in the marble-querries of Pietra Santa in Italy. The City of Amsterdam has installed several of her sculptures in public spaces en buildings. Highly profiled was the group of sculptures ' Walking towards Nieuwmarkt ', situated on a Damstraat bridge in Amsterdam. Much talked about also is the 'Apocalyps', a monumental sculpture based on the Revalation of St. John, in the garden of the Biblical Museum, also in Amsterdam.

Portraits, Fountains and other Sculptures
Martie van der Loo uses various kind of stone, at times combined with other materials such as lead, zinc and bronze. Her objects are dissimilar: fountains, portraits, as well as sculptures that are more abstract. It is characteristic for her work that is has predominantly the human body or aspects of it as a point of departure.

Installations
From 1987 untill 1993 Martie van der Loo was one of the five visual artists who formed the group ' Holland Spoor', This group made installations at various locations in various countries, always using the direct environment as their source of inspiration.

Commisioned Works
Martie van der Loo has frequently worked for local as well as national authorities, various organizations. and private persons.

Gravestones and Tablets
Martie van der Loo is regularly commissioned by private persons to make gravestones and monuments for cementeries. In collaboration with visual artist Edith Sont she also designs and manufactures tablets. The tablet depicted on this page '' In the Plow and the Ox ' is

Sculpters Symposiums
I
n recent years Martie van der Loo was invited several times to attend sculpters' symposiums outside Holland, among other places in China, where she worked on a monumental sculpture for Yanging parc. (2001)
